What is love?
Love is not passion, though those in love may be passionate.
Love is not possession, though a couple coupled in love possess one another equally.
Love is not responsibility, though there are many responsibilities in love and to love.
Love is not emotion, though love stirs and summons great emotion.
What is love?
It is not romance, though many romances contain great loves.
Love may be patient. Love may be kind. Love may be rough, or tough, or hard to bear.
What is love?
Love is the bond between two lives- experiences, emotions, actions. Different loves exist for different peoples. The love one bears a sibling one chooses. The love one bears a friend. The love one bears a mate or affiance.
Platonic and plutonic, the love a soldier has for children of a family he's never met in a part of the country he's never been to but will die for willingly anyway, the love of a firefighter for the victim he risks his health to save from the blaze, the love a woman bestows with gentle kisses to her young's foreheads and the love she may more passionately apply to her spouse's lips. The hug of a stranger you have never truly met over the internet who hears and feels your pain and wishes to aid you, or the hug of the sibling in the same room who wishes to share it.
The love of the honest politician, rare as they may be, that slaves to serve their people with a smile. The love a person may bear for their religion or god, or for their pet, or for an object they are much attached to after many years of experience- a well worn well loved book, a teddy bear clinging from their toddler days to their eighth year and beyond, the school they mingled with their peers and lifelong heartfelt friends in.
Love is more than duty. Love is more than knowledge. Love is more than feeling. Love is more, even, than the pains and pleasures and results it bears and brings.
Love is an essence of many things and many beings. Love carries beyond the grave for the widow who cries longingly at her husband's grave in sorry. Love carries beyond the human condition for the child who leaps in front of a car to try to save his puppy. Love carries beyond passion for the couple who find themselves bored with one another, or under two opposing flags.
What is love?
You'll have to find out for yourself.
